INDIAN ASSOCIATION OF PREVENTIVE AND SOCIAL MEDICINE ORISSA CHAPTER

Contributors Guideline

The journal of community medicine (JCM) publishes articles focusing on original research findings related to current community health problems, issues, policies and programs of India and the world at large.

 

The journal invites publication of original article, short article, on recent advances, clinical epidemiological diagnosis, and management, comments, review articles, correspondence, and letter to editor, field experience, success stories, and lecture notes on issues of public health importance.

 

The journal is published biannually (July and January) .it is assigned a number 0973-2454 ISSN (international standardized serial number) and in due course will be indexed in other indexing system.

 

It is published by the Indian Association of preventive and Social Medicine (Orissa Chapter) at the department of Community Medicine VSS Medical College, Burla – 768017, Sambalpur, Orissa, India.

 

All submission must be in English and should not have been published in any substantial from in any other publication, professional or lay. All manuscripts will become the property of the publishers and will be subjected to editorial review. It is sent to out side review to at least 2 referees whose comments are sent back to others. The revised manuscript is again peer-reviewed and if found unsuitable for JCM, the same is communicated to author. Accepted articles will be edited for style and grammar. Accepted papers become the permanent property of the IAPSM (Orissa Chapter).All articles should mention how ethical aspect of the study was addressed.( http://wws.wma.net/e/policy/b3.htm)

 

The editors and the publishers disclaim any responsibility of liability for statements and opinions expressed in any format published by journal. The editorial policy is subjected to periodic modification by the decision taken on Annual General Body Meetings.

 

Preparation and Submission of Manuscript

 

Author are requested to consult “Uniform Requirement for manuscript (URM) submitted to Biomedical Journal’s before submission of manuscript to JCM.( http://www.icmji.org).

Packed in tick board paper

 

Other requirements

Two self addressed envelope manuscript (affixing postage of Rs22/-) for early response.

 

Cover letter

 

The submitted work should have a covering letter on the official letter head under signature of the corresponding author or any other authorized person.

 

Authorship & Contributorship

 

A certificate signed by all authors must accompany the contribution, stating that

 

“ This is to certify that the reported work in the paper entitled ————————————————. Submitted for the publication in the “ journal of community medicine” is an original  one and the content has not been published elsewhere and does not overlap or duplicate their published work. Upon acceptance they will take public responsibility for the content and provide any relevant data on request .It will not be published anywhere without permission of the editor. Rewriting, modification or rejection by the editorial board will be accepted by us.

The content of all authors of the paper has been obtained for submission to the journal. Copyright to “journal of community medicine” is transferred upon acceptance.”

 

Individual contribution of each author must be specified in a single brief statement. E.g. S.Ganguli conceived of the study and supervised all aspects of its implementation. R. Chhotroy assisted with the study and completed the analysis. S.K.Pattnaik supervised analyses and led the writing. N.C.Samal helped analyzing the study. All authors helped to conceptualize ideas, interpret findings and review draft of manuscript.

Concise and descriptive

Author(s)’s  name to be given as initials following by surname

The academic degree and designation with name of the institution to be given below author’s name after superscripting individual author names with asterisks. Detailed address of corresponding author has to be given at the bottom of the page.

A short title or foot line not more than 40 letters (count letter including spaces) has to be mentioned.

Word count of the   main text (excluding abstract, acknowledgement, figures, legends, references) and abstract besides the number of tables and figures should be mentioned in the title page.

 

Abstract

On a separate page

Carry a structured summary of 250 words

Include background, aims of study, methodology, results and conclusion

3-10 keywords to be mentioned below the abstract.

Keywords should not include words in the title as title is automatically indexed.

The keywords may be taken to the medical subject heading(Mesh)list of Index medicus

Should not contain data given in the table.

Present in logical sequence

Linked to table, figures or illustrations

All data in the table or illustration or both need not be repeated in the text

Use of graph as alternative to table is encouraged when it seems appropriate

Important observations should be summarized

 

Discussion

Detailed data of result section should n’t be repeated

Compare findings with those of others,  wherever appropriate

Discuss its relevance to the  problem  tackled

New findings, new interpretation to be clearly spelt out.

 

Conclusion

Main findings of the investigation reported in the paper

Link the conclusions with the goals of the study

Recommendation if appropriate may be included.

 

Acknowledgement

Specify the contributions that need to be acknowledged in one or two sentences

Written permissions from persons  acknowledged by name In a separate sheet

 

Conflict of interest

A brief statement on source of findings and conflict of interest, financial or otherwise

In a separate page

 

Abbreviation

Use familiar ones

Define them when used first in the text

Reference

The literature as referred to in the text should be put under this section and number sequentially in the order of its first use as mentioned in the text. Indicate sources in the text as serial numbers. Eg. [1],  [2].

The full list of references at t5he end of the paper should include:

Names and initials of all authors up to six

If more than six, only the first six are given followed by et al.

LEGENDS

 

A descriptive legend must accompany each illustration and must define all abbreviations used therein.

 

ILLUSTRATION

Designed on glossy paper

Large enough to be eligible even after reduction.

The back of each paper should have the name of authors, sequence numbers and proper orientation (eg,top) on pencil.

Figure should be unmounted.

Legends should be triple spaced in a separate paper.

 

TABLE

Type each table double-spaced in a separate page

Provide a title for each table and indicate its position in the text.

Number the table in Arabic numerals

Each column must have a short heading

Put explanatory notes in the footnote if necessary.

Don’t use internal horizontal or vertical rules.

Number of each table should be proportionate to the length of the text.

IMPORTANCE

 Review of the manuscript takes any time between one to six months. Authors are requested to quote the reference numbers of the article in all correspondence with the JCM( Journal of Community Medicine). Cooperation is solicited from the authors to follow these guidelines.
